Firstly, thank you for taking the time to stop by my page and read my story. My name is Kunda Lyimo and I am the Owner of Hartlaub’s Tourism Tanzania.

I was born here in beautiful Tanzania in 1978, the first son and eldest of my siblings. When I was 6 my father moved me from Dar es Salaam to Mwika area of Moshi, where I grew up in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Once I became old enough to leave school, I initially trained as an Automotive Engineer and Professional Driver at Arusha Technical College and it was during this period I really got to know the man who inspired my career choice; my late Uncle Dan Tarimo, who was a Professional Guide and Tourism Expert.

Through him, I grew my passion for working in Tourism and in the year 2000, I studied for a Diploma in Tourism and Tour Guide Administration at the Nairobi Institute of Tourism, based out of the Arusha Campus, which is renowned for its professional training in mountain climbing and wildlife safaris.

Upon graduation, I became a Porter working for different operators and taking instruction from the Chief Guides. I was always intrigued by the idea of becoming a Professional Mountain Guide and I learnt a great deal from being a Porter, then an Assistant Mountain Guide, which was a natural progression for me. With more experience, I was ready to then join the official Mount Kilimanjaro Training for Guides in 2006, when I was awarded a full accreditation and Full Route Guide Licence to be able to lead treks myself, which I have been doing ever since.

Through my professional training and work, I have been given other wonderful opportunities as a Guide for wildlife safaris for all manner of different types of safari, including both lodge stays and camping safaris at our different National Parks. For me, the greatest joy of my work is in seeing how much visitors learn to love and appreciate my beloved Tanzania, whether they have come for the trekking, safaris, cultural activities or volunteer opportunities. It is truly heart-warming to know that everyone who comes to Tanzania will remember the experience for the rest of their lives. That is why I have set up Hartlaub’s Tourism Tanzania, to share my love of my country with you.
