Rongai Route
The Rongai Route is a moderately challenging route on Mount Kilimanjaro, situated on the northern slope of the mountain. It is not a crowded route, though certainly no less interesting the the southern and western routes. This route is also highly recommended to less experienced backpackers.
Moreover, this route is the only route that will take you through Mawenzi which is one of the amazing volcanic cones of Kilimanjaro and it is also the third highest peak in Africa.

Package Itinerary - 7 days!

Firstly, we depart for Marangu Gate for permits before moving over to the Rongai Gate trailhead. Following this trail leads us into the fascinating rainforest.

On Day 2, we gradually make our way up to the Second Cave, at elevation 11,300 feet, and then we continue our journey by switching from the main path for a different path that will lead us to the Kikelewa Cave.

On Day 3, we will take a hike through a grassy slope before entering into the beautiful Alpine Desert Zone. We will then soon arrive at the Mawezi Tarn where we will be staying overnight.

This day is for acclimatisation and of course can be spent day hiking on Mawenzi Ridge, at elevation 14,400 feet. When we’ve explored this fascinating area, we then travel back to the Mawenzi Tarn.

Here we climb gradually, then we then cross the desert between Mawenzi and Kibo. Kibo Hut will then be at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall.

Around midnight, we begin to move towards the summit (this stage of the trek can be mentally and physically challenging). The weather conditions can be extreme at this time of the day. We will then ascend in the darkness for hours while taking frequent, short breaks. At Gilman’s point, you will instantly get rewarded with an incredibly beautiful sight being the sunrise coming over the Mawenzi Peak. We will then arrive at Uhuru Peak which is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and amazingly the continent of Africa, elevation 19,341 feet.
We will then descend to Horombo Hut. During the evening we will enjoy our final dinner and long sleep.

On the final day, we have a trek through the rainforest. Once we reach the park headquarters, we will then collect our summit certificates.
This package has been carefully priced to include everything that you will need to have a successful 8 day Kilimanjaro climbing adventure. Climbing packages of 6, 7 and 8 days are also possible depending upon your preference. Shorter durations tend to be cheaper, but are more physically demanding.
