Northern Circuit
The Northern Circuit is considered by many due to the scintillating scenery on offer and superb acclimatization on the route. It is the longest route in Kilimanjaro and it also has the highest summit success rate. This route is suited to those that enjoy long trekking experiences without a large number of trekkers with them.

Package Itinerary - 9 days!

Firstly, we depart for Londrossi Gate which will take up to 4 hours (entry formalities will be completed). Then we head for the Lemosho trail where we begin our adventure by moving through a rainforest which will soon lead us to a camp site.

On Day 2 we will leave the rainforest and approach tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock. We will then soon reach Shira Ridge and then drop down to arrive at the Shira 1 Camp where we’ll be able to get a view of Kibo across the plateau.

On Day 3, we will walk through the Shira Plateu which will then lead us towards the Shira 2 Camp. On the walk through the Shira Plateu, we will be able to view the amazing Scencio trees.

On Day 4, we will move up a ridge and then we will head over towards the Lava Tower, elevation 15,190 feet. We’ll then move from the main trail and travel towards Moir Hut which is on the base of Lent Hills.

On Day 5 we will begin to travel out of Moir Valley with a steep climb then we will diligently hike all the way up to the summit of Lent Hills. Then after this we will soon be back onto the main trail. On the trail we will walk through a rock field before reaching our destination (Buffalo Camp).

On Day 6, we move our way through the Buffalo Ridge and the beautiful remote valleys until we finally reach the third cave.

On this day we will gradually climb through the “Saddle” which is in between Mawenzi and Kibo. After this we will then travel towards our destination (School Hut) where we’ll enjoy a dinner and a long sleep to prepare us for the summit day.

Around midnight, we then start to push towards the summit. This is considered to be the most physically challenging part of the trek as there is a possibility of extreme weather conditions. For several hours, we ascend in darkness while taking frequent short breaks. After this we’ll reach an area close to Gilman’s Point where you’ll be rewarded with an excellent view of the sunrise coming of Mawenzi Peak. Then we arrive at Uhuru peak which is the highest peak in Africa, elevation 19,341 feet.
We then descend straight down towards the Mweka Hut camp site before stopping at Barafu for lunch. Trekking poles are helpful at this stage because the trail is relatively rocky. Mweka camp is in the upper forest. It would be recommended to prepare for rain as rain can be expected at this stage. In the evening we enjoy a dinner and a long sleep.

Finally, on the last day, we will travel to Mweka Gate to collect our certificates.
This package has been carefully priced to include everything that you will need to have a successful 8 day Kilimanjaro climbing adventure. Climbing packages of 7, 8 and 9 days are also possible depending upon your preference. Shorter durations tend to be cheaper, but are more physically demanding.
