Lemosho Route
The Lemosho route is a newer route on Mount Kilimanjaro and is generally considered the most scenic route amongst all the other routes. This route also has a high summit success rate and has relatively low crowds. Moreover, the climb is considered to be gradual and smooth. This epic adventure begins on the western slope of Kilimanjaro and then you travel to the infamous Shira Plateau. Then you shall move through the Lemosho route which takes you through different climate zones.

Package Itinerary - 8 days!

Firstly, we will head for the Lemosho trailhead where we begin our adventure by moving through a rainforest which will lead us to the camp site.

On Day 2 we will leave the rainforest and approach tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock. We will then soon reach Shira Ridge and then drop down to arrive at the Shira 1 Camp where we’ll be able to get a good view of Kibo.

On Day 3, we will walk through the Shira Plateau which will then lead us towards the Shira 2 Camp. We will then move away from the main trail and travel towards the main hut which is on the base of Lent Hills.

On Day 4 we will head towards the Lava Tower, elevation 15,190 feet, after climbing a ridge. After this we move towards the Barranco Camp, elevation 13,044 feet, after moving through the intriguing Senecio Forest.

This day begins by heading towards the base of the Great Barranco Wall where we will begin to climb a steep hill. Once we reach the top of this wall, we will pass through a variety of valleys and hills until we arrive at the Karanga Valley. We will then climb another steep hill until we reach the Karanga Camp.

We will travel to the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail. Then we shall soon arrive at the Barafu hut. By the time we have reached this point, we will have the opportunity to view the summit. After this we will enjoy an early dinner and then have a long sleep to prepare for the next day.

Around midnight, we then start to push towards the summit. This is considered to be the most physically challenging part of the trek as there is a possibility of extreme weather conditions. For several hours, we ascend in darkness while taking frequent short breaks. After this we’ll reach an area close to Stella Point where you’ll be rewarded with an excellent view of the sunrise coming of Mawenzi Peak. Then we arrive at Uhuru peak, which is the highest peak in Africa, elevation 19,341 feet..
We will then descend straight down towards the Mweka Hut camp site before stopping at Barafu for lunch. Trekking poles are helpful at this stage because the trail is relatively rocky. Mweka camp is in the upper forest. It would be recommended to prepare for rain as rain can be expected at this stage. In the evening we enjoy a dinner and a long sleep.

Finally, on the last day, we will travel to Mweka Gate to collect our certificates.
